How McTimoney Chiropractic can help the animals in your life

Just like humans animals can suffer back pain, neck pain or injury.  The McTimoney animal technique is a non-invasive holistic approach which works to realign and balance the animal’s musculoskeletal system, thereby restoring health and movement.

Most animals readily accept the treatment and most owners like it because no anaesthetic or drugs are needed.

Obtaining Veterinary permission

Before any McTimoney treatment can take place veterinary permission must be obtained as it is illegal for anyone to treat an animal without a veterinary surgeons approval.  Most vets are aware of the benefits of McTimoney care for animals and will readily give their permission for the animal to be adjusted.

What happens at a McTimoney Chiropractic treatment?

Karen will take a case history prior to treating, this will include details of current and past injury, changes in behaviour, and the animal’s exercise pattern and general lifestyle.

Karen may then ask to see the animal moving to look for any imbalances or irregularities in movement, she will then assess the spine pelvis and any other relevant joints for areas of reduced motion, spasm, heat or tenderness which may indicate a problem in that area.

Treatment involves very precise and rapid adjustments to the area indicated. Employing the McTimoney technique Karen will utilise only her hands for analysis and manipulation, using a finely tuned sense of touch.

Animals may need adjusting if they have suffered an injury such as a fall or collision.

What happens after a treatment?

Animals react in much the same way as humans after a treatment. They can feel relaxed and even sleepy, although some might be energetic for a while. It is important to allow or encourage the animal to rest for 24 hours if possible to allow the body to settle.
